So I was having a conversation with a friend. About a few things. Mostly gospel topics. Talking about how we want the gospel to be hard, so we over complicate it and MAKE it hard. We think that in order to learn something, we need to suffer for it. Trials, how they are needed to test faith. Because faith without works is dead. Suffering and trials do not need to go hand in hand. Sometimes yes, they do. But for the most part, it is our own unwillingness to just let it be that creates strife.
Then he said The Gospel is centered on Love, and powered by faith. Well an elemental part of our beings is love, as is faith. So in reality are WE not the gospel? That thought just came to me and honestly it really thrills me. I am the gospel. You are the gospel. It was like an Ahha! Moment.
One I wanted to share.
Last night fireside was on United order. It was interesting to see how we got so focused on the temporal things, making sure everyone had food, shelter, clothing and transportation, which, granted, are all wonderful things. But change your focus, and just what is it that we are trying to accomplish by making sure everyone is provided for? The bottom line is to Glorify God.
That is what we are made for. We were made to worship. And God's glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. We place trust in him but he also places trust in us. Faith, if you will. And faith without works is dead, so Christ acts and has acted on that faith he has in each of us. By atoning for our sins and striving with us each and everyday. It's a relationship, giving and taking. Mutually healing and uplifting, the very example we should try to emulate in every relationship we have throughout life. Granted, God has a lot more to offer than we do. But that doesn't mean our part of the relationship should be lessened, the role we play in it.
Anyway, those are just some thoughts I've been having today.

I love it :)
ReplyDeleteI would actually submit that the one thing we're trying to accomplish in getting people prepared, is to not only teach them many lessons such as dedication, discipline and humility, but also to save their lives from what is to come. The Lord will only help someone if they're doing their best to help themselves and others. Rather than changing the focus, broaden the focus.
